Our Cause
“I want to tell you my story, but it is so sad it will make you cry.”
These were the words spoken to us by 14-year old Esther a day into our stay in Mazabuka, Zambia. It was November 2010, the beginning of a one –month stay at an orphanage in Central Africa. She was right. We could have never been prepared for all we’d experience. We’d arrived hopeful and left forever changed.
In that one month, the children of Oz Kids International gave us so much and now it’s our turn to give back. We’ve decided to run the Chicago Marathon on October 9, 2011 in honor of the twelve orphans who have become family to us.
Over the next eight weeks leading up to marathon day, we’ll be sharing stories, photos and memories of our time in Mazabuka, Zambia while training for our run for the kids. We’ll introduce you to the children whose lives have had a profound impact on us and hope these stories will inspire you to get involved. All donations will go directly to Oz Kids International. There are no administrative or overhead costs so every dollar donated will go directly towards clothing, feeding and schooling the orphans of Zambia.
To kick off our fundraising efforts, check out the video above to meet our twelve friends we are running for.
